The Commission announces the “2022 Third Annual Historic Ninth Street District Christmas and Food Giveaway, Friday, December 16, 2022, 5:00 PM-7:00 PM, Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission, 906 Broadway Parking Lot, Little Rock, Arkansas 72201. The Commission has once again partnered with Power 92, The Praise Network, KOKY 102.1, Tyson Foods, and the Arkansas Food Bank to distribute more than 20,000 pounds of food to economically disadvantaged individuals and families. Guests may remain in vehicles as volunteers issue food items. This is an outdoor event. Food items and toys will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.

The event will also provide free toys and photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus for children. Children must take a photo with Santa to receive free toys. The Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission observes CDC guidelines and takes precautionary measures relative to COVID-19. Guests are asked to observe social distancing where necessary.

“This is what Dr. King meant when he said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others? ”says DuShun Scarbrough, Executive Director. Service lays the foundation to build community and brotherhood. The Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission serves thousands of families directly and indirectly through this project. We have more than one thousand cars to come through, with a minimum of two people per household. The food that we give away can sustain families for weeks. Each time we host these events, more and more people come out. The Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission is doing its part to address food insecurity within our city.
